The reasons to invest in Airlie are many and self-evident. In a word: ‘growth’. Just as the township nestles into fertile, rainforested ridges, so too is the region’s human geography experiencing an unprecedented growth spurt. The mining boom has been key to this growth, along with the associated expansion in housing and construction.

Recent research suggests that Whitsunday’s population will continue to grow at a vigorous rate:

The estimated resident population of the Whitsunday local government area increased from 15,522 in 2001 to 18,017 in 2006… Between 2006 to 2021, the Whitsunday population is projected to increase by 9,049 persons, an average of 603 persons per annum over the 15 years. By 2021 the difference between the high and the medium series population projections equates to 2,174 persons. *

Another major catalyst to local growth will be the Port of Airlie currently under construction. Featured within this significant marina resort development will be: extensive open public spaces, a new town square, boardwalks, a world-class marina, cafes, restaurants, boutiques and an additional acre of specialty retail outlets. In terms of fortuitous timing, it seems that Airlie’s ship has well and truly come in.
